The Children of Amargosa

The Children of Amargosa refers to a core group of young survivors from the Gelt Incursion of 429 IE. Brought together by tragedy and necessity, they played key roles in both local resistance and later interstellar events tied to the Compact of Humanity in Assembly’s response to the invasion. By the beginning of the Suicide Arc, the Children are recognized as both heroes and symbols of resilience throughout human space.

Though many of them were only adolescents when the invasion began, they rapidly adapted to war, occupation, and rebellion, becoming instrumental in reshaping Amargosa’s future.

Suicide’s Relationship to the Children

Suicide, a mysterious and formidable resistance operative, gradually becomes an integral part of the group’s survival and evolution. Initially feared for her brutal efficiency, she later assumes a more maternal and strategic role:

  • Acts as protector and combat mentor, especially to JT and Ellie.

  • Provides moral contrast, often challenging the Children’s decisions and forcing them to think beyond their trauma.

  • Respects their autonomy and growth, treating them as comrades rather than subordinates.

Her involvement with the Children is deeply personal, becoming one of her few emotional investments during the war.
