Adam Hogarth

Species: Human
Birthplace: Jefivah (formerly designated GeFivee, or G5e, short for Garrond 5e)

Adam Hogarth is a xenobiologist from Jefivah, widely recognized for his pioneering work during humanity’s first encounter with the Yedevans near Zeta Reticuli. Witnessing the transformation of Bernard Botaki into a biological node of the Yedevan group mind left Hogarth profoundly changed. His research since has focused on alien cognition, distributed consciousness, and the ethical limits of human exploration.

Frustrated by Earth’s tightening grip on interstellar policy, Hogarth aligned himself more closely with Etrusca—a world steeped in Neo-Roman ideals and often credited as the philosophical and political engine that shaped the Compact, despite its capital initially being located on Earth. On Etrusca, he became an outspoken advocate for scientific independence and ethical exploration, working closely with Compact founders Marcus Dazar and Tol Germanicus.

Role in Jump

In 438,

Hogarth is one of several delegates en route to Tian, where they plan to formally introduce articles of impeachment against Marcus Leitman, who has seized executive authority under dubious circumstances. His presence on the maiden voyage of the Endeavour is part of a high-level diplomatic and constitutional mission, carried out aboard the most advanced ship the Compact Navy has ever deployed.

Although his past experiences with the Yedevans are not why he was chosen for this mission, they lend additional weight to his views when concerns arise over the implications of quantum entanglement travel. Hogarth acts as both an observer and philosophical counterweight, reminding his fellow travelers of the dangers of pushing too far into the unknown without understanding the consequences.
