“Now and Then” is a short story from the collection Suicide's Children. It is the first story in the collection.
The Children of Amargosa gather on Aphrodite for a memorial service for Suicide conducted by Master Ansel, the founder of Cubism. The group did not attend memorial services conducted on Tian or Hanar, as those were for politicians and military brass. This one is for them.
Each of the Children of Amargosa delivers a few words about their Chosen Mother (as she was called.) Yet after the service breaks up, JT Austin and Davra Andraste both voice skepticism that Suicide is dead.
