Nanites – Dasarius Control Swarm

Type: Specialized Nanotechnology
Used By: Dasarius Interstellar
First Appearance: After Amargosa (referenced), fully explained in the final Suicide Arc novel

Summary:
Dasarius Control Nanites are a proprietary swarm-based nanotechnology used by Dasarius Interstellar to maintain executive control and succession. Unlike conventional nanotech, these nanites are hardened against EMP interference and resist standard rejuvenation protocols. They are unique to the Dasarius family and form the backbone of the company’s internal power structure.

Function and Behavior:

  • The designated heir to the Dasarius corporate lineage is injected with the control nanites at birth.
  • The swarm integrates slowly, becoming fully mature by age 50, at which point the heir can assume complete control of company systems.
  • Current and former CEOs are all carriers of the nanites, which act as both an interface and failsafe—former CEOs can override current leadership in emergencies.
  • Removal or neutralization of the nanites requires a specialized purge protocol. Without this, the swarm remains permanently integrated.

Notable Subjects:

  • JT Austin: Received the control nanites at birth as the original heir. Though he formally rejected his birthright, he never ran the purge protocol, resulting in latent consequences that surface later in the series.

    Latent Cognitive Integration:
Due to JT Austin’s failure to run the purge protocol after rejecting his birthright, his control nanites exhibit unexpected behavior. One key consequence is the preservation of Elizabeth 'Lizzy' Parker’s fragmented consciousness within his mind.

Following a shared blood-swapping betrothal ritual, Lizzy’s nanites interacted with JT’s swarm. After Lizzy’s physical death, a faint but persistent copy of her memories and personality remained embedded within JT’s neurology. Though initially dormant, this “ghost” awakened after the liberation of Amargosa, manifesting sporadically as a lucid dream presence and, on rare occasions, as a hallucinatory figure visible to JT.

    This phenomenon suggests that:

    • The control swarm can store and preserve external consciousness fragments under specific circumstances.

    • Memory and emotional resonance can trigger semi-autonomous “ghost” constructs within a host.

    • The swarm’s behavior is more complex and less controllable than Dasarius Interstellar originally intended, with long-term psychological and ethical implications.

  • Tessa Dasarius: Her nanites were forcibly activated at age 10 after her father’s historic ouster—the first in company history.
  • Shaneese Dasarius: Injected at age 9 after JT’s rejection, her older brother’s disqualification, and her younger brother’s strong desire to join the military forced the family to designate her as heir.

Notes:

  • The swarm’s persistent nature ensures Dasarius Interstellar maintains generational continuity and centralized control.
  • These nanites hint at deeper ethical and technological implications in the Dasarius family’s influence—issues that come to the forefront in later novels.
