The colony was named after the “Blessed Mother Marilyn“—a reference to the World War Era actress venerated by a fringe religious sect originating on Jefivah. The settlement attracted attention for the rise of the Marilynist Temple, whose ostentatious sanctuaries included anatomically detailed statues and whose cultic practices drew derision from Compact authorities.
Marilyn was one of three colonies (alongside Barrataria and Mercia) supported by Jefivah.
