Species: Human
Affiliation: Cybercommand (formerly)
Occupation: Senior Field Agent (O-5); slated Chief of Staff
Status: Deceased (killed 435 IE by Eric Yuwono)
Ian Forrest was a long-serving field operative for Cybercommand, known for his competence, composure, and reputation as a mentor to junior agents. Considered one of the division’s most valuable operatives, Forrest was widely expected to succeed Tanner as Chief of Staff. However, his legacy was destroyed in 435 IE when he betrayed Cybercommand, orchestrating the bombing of the Campsite, which killed most of the division’s leadership—including Frumentarius and Naomi Maxwell.
Role in Another Way to Die
Forrest is introduced on Tian as part of Cybercommand’s top-tier field team. He is paired with Eric Yuwono to consult on the growing threat of Juno, and initially appears as a trusted voice with a long field resume and a mentor-like relationship to both Yuwono and Maxwell.
What no one suspects is that Forrest is already compromised. In secret, he organizes the Campsite bombing, eliminating most of Cybercommand’s senior staff in a single devastating strike. His betrayal paves the way for greater Juno influence and destabilizes the Compact’s covert intelligence apparatus at a critical moment.
Yuwono later uncovers Forrest’s role during the final phase of the Hosh operation. Their confrontation occurs in Caro’s mansion on Hosh, a Juno-affiliated stronghold. There, Forrest’s mask fully drops, confirming his alignment with Juno and his role in the mass murder of his former colleagues. Yuwono responds decisively, killing Forrest and ending the threat he posed—though not the conspiracy he helped enable.

Author’s Note: Forrest is named for Ian Fleming, creator of James Bond, and Forest Yeo-Thomas, one of several Naval Intelligence officers Fleming modeled Bond after, among the famed MI-6 operative Sydney Reilly and Fleming’s cousin and fellow spy, actor Christopher Lee (ironically considered to play Bond and later played a Bond villain.)
