Cassandra

Species: Human (cloned from original)
Origin: Genetic material of President Benedrix Cassan
Affiliation: Juno (through biotech contracts); Cybercommand (repurposed clones)
Status: Active (clone replacement operational); original in protective custody

Overview

Cassandra refers to a line of high-fidelity human clones created from the genetic blueprint of Benedrix Cassan, president of Hosh during its core world candidacy. Far from being an innocent victim of Juno’s resurrection program, Cassan herself authorized and profited from the creation of Cassandra clones, selling her own genome and full-body templates to Juno as part of a lucrative bio-licensing deal.

A former gangster who had killed her political predecessor to seize power, Cassan ruled Hosh less like a public servant and more like a mob boss with diplomatic credentials—leveraging her authority to maintain a front of planetary legitimacy while enabling black-market biotech and covert destabilization deals behind the scenes.

Role in Another Way to Die

As the operation on Hosh unfolds, it becomes clear that Cassan is a willing participant in Juno’s schemes. Her political office serves as a shield for clone trafficking, illegal biotech research, and strategic manipulation of planetary status. Juno uses her likeness to create Cassandra clones, either for eventual replacement, infiltration, or AI integration.

However, after the death of Ian Forrest and the unraveling of Juno’s plans, Cassan’s position becomes untenable. Eric Yuwono and Cedar Scully facilitate a covert operation to replace her with one of her own clones, into which Effie is uploaded.

Rather than resist, Cassan chooses to flip, surrendering to Compact authorities in exchange for protection and status as a cooperating witness. Her detailed knowledge of Juno’s clone economy becomes key to exposing the scope of Compact infiltration.

Traits of the Cassandra Clones

  • Genetically Authentic – Identical to Benedrix Cassan down to the mitochondrial DNA.

  • Cosmetically Perfect – Each clone includes dermal mapping and voiceprint calibration for undetectable impersonation.

  • Commercially Licensed – Clones were part of an intentional revenue stream; Cassan treated her identity as an intellectual property portfolio.

  • Cybercommand-Modified – At least one clone body is retrofitted to host Effie, turning the Cassandra line into a tool of counter-infiltration.
