Barataria is a colony of Jefivah, originally designated 1955B. It was the first world scouted by Douglas Best while serving as Jefivah’s agriculture minister. Initial settlers came primarily from South Africa and Bromdar. The planet is a warm, wet world with a former Navy weapons depot buried inside an alpine mountain. The depot, two kilometers underground, contains enough warheads to arm twenty capital ships and was designed to survive multiple fusion blasts. A settlement was established nearby, prompting concern from Naval Intelligence and Compact Security. The planet was never granted core world status.
