Cui Ya was a Tianese music teacher and mother of Suicide, whom she named “Yun” at her birth. She married Cui Jiao-long, a Navy pilot serving aboard the Hancock.
Ya was a brilliant piano player and could play classic pieces after hearing them only once. Her favorites included Beethoven, Mozart, and Elton John. The last sometimes coaxed her husband, to Yun’s delight, to sing along.
