Amortality refers to in indefinite lifespan. This differs from immortality in that an immortal cannot die whereas an amortal merely does not age and recovers from illness or injury rather quickly. Violence, intense disease, or accident can still kill an amortal.
The term was most commonly used by Orags, who perfected permanent rejuvenation centuries before Sapiens. However, while both species were human, Sapiens lacked a protein that allowed Orags to permanently rejuvenate. The ultimate process involved a grueling swap in bone marrow that infused the Sapiens genome with Neanderthal DNA.
