Storming Amargosa Update: In Which Finn Discovers The Schwartz Has Indeed Awakened

Word Perfect - DOS versionTwo weeks, and I’m 20,000 words in. That works out to just over 1400 words a day. Once upon a time, that was typical output for me. Now it’s a result of converting the script into prose. Stage direction provides the most opportunity to add words. Sometimes I have to adjust dialog.

A few things that have come up in this week’s work:

  • The character who died inĀ Second Wave whose death being exaggerated I can’t reveal just dropped a hint as to who she really is.
  • Montage scenes don’t convert so well.I may have to rewrite one I’ve already converted. Another I just had one of the POV characters observe the action in one seamless scene. Some will still have to be dramatic POV with no dialog. But I may have to rewrite them in the next round of revisions.
  • The story is holding up well. I thought I’d have to rewrite the last act, but I may need to tweak it some to up the stakes. Still, I like it. Including the kaboom. Spoiler alert, there’s a big, Earth-shattering kaboom.
  • The very, very ending is going to probably need work. It’s going to be a bittersweet ending, but I need to bring it in for a satisfying landing. At least it’s not a cliffhanger.
